Episode 019: How Getting Into The Right Bra Size Can Change Your Life
Today I am talking with one of my all time favorite people, Courtney Killpack from Bra Fittings by Court. I met Courtney almost 20 years ago when we were both aspiring high school cheerleaders. #truestory.
Since then we’ve grown up a lot, started families, developed passion and I’ve watched and cheered as Courtney has built her Bra Empire from super humble beginnings to the busy shop and bra education brand it is today, and she’s not stopping anytime soon.

Courtney’s background and how she got started in the lingerie department and Nordstrom. From getting certified, to gaining more and more experience, and seeing how the right bra can actually change people’s life.
I know! You wouldn’t think that a bra can be life changing- but it can, and it does. And now from her shop, Courtney is literally changing the world one bra fitting appointment at a time.
Bra Fittings By Court started with very humble beginnings. Finding herself as a stay at home mom, Court felt that pull that she needed something additional to do outside of motherhood. She started a lifestyle blog and one day wrote a blog post about how a bra should or shouldn’t fit. The post went viral, and the rest is history.
She quit the lifestyle part of blogging and started focusing on bras and the education around bras. From there she started meeting clients at different stores and fitting them there, as it began to grow, Court really needed to drop the meeting people at stores and just create her own.
Bra Fittings By Court was born in the basement of her home. With some saved up money she bought a bunch of bra’s, focused on growing her inventory, and began building a business she loved, all while being able to still be home with her babies and still be a full time mom.
Over the past few years her shop has grown and grown some more. What started out as an outlet and a way to maybe pay for a family vacation, through so much hard work, Bra Fittings by Court has turned into a thriving business that even helped pay for their new home!
What is the future of Bra Fittings By Court? Eventually move the store out of her basement, hire and train more employees and open more locations.
Online Bra Shop: Bosom Besties - Since the world is a big place, Courtney know the importance of the internet and technology. Not everyone can come to her shop, so she created Bosom Besties, and an amazing bra fitting calculator that she is even partnering with other companies on. After fitting almost 5 THOUSAND women, and using all the knowledge, this calculator is super accurate and helpful.
We discuss a lot of the Common Bra Problems that Courtney sees in her shop: One of the most common things she sees is women feeling like they can’t do certain things, or wear certain things. A lot of women layer unnecessarily. Women feeling uncomfortable or frumpy. Dealing with neck, shoulder, or back pain. But the most important thing is the emotional problems. Just not feeling confident and not loving themselves. Once you get something that fits your body really well, you automatically feel better. You leave my shop instantly feeling better.
Bra Sizing: There are sooo many more sizes than we realize. Bras are not like jeans where it’s 2,4,6,8,10 etc…..they are way more customizable, and the crazy thing is, the majority of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Fun fact: I went into Courtney a few months ago wearing a size 34D and left her shop in a 30G!!!! I was SHOCKED. But I felt so dang good that it didn’t matter what the number on the tag said. Wearing the size that fits YOUR BODY is honestly life changing. I told Courtney that for YEARS I felt so awkward in lingerie because I was always spilling out of bras. I mean, talk about a fast way to plummet your confidence and sex appeal! Once I was in the right size, I felt way better, and yes it totally helped improve my sex life!
When should I get fitted for a new bra? NOW! Don’t wait, you don’t need to spend one more second feeling uncomfortable. So many women want to wait to get fitted for a new bra until they are done being pregnant or nursing. Or they wait until they lose weight. Or whatever. Courtney says NO! Girl, get a good bra now- and then get another one when you need another one. You deserve to feel good. You wouldn’t wear the wrong size of shoes just because you thought your feet might change. You would wear shoes that work for you! Bras are no different!
How should a bra fit? Your band should be way lower. The band is where your support comes from. It’s like a teeter totter. Lower in the back, lifts up in the front.
A bigger cup size= better coverage. Most women aren’t taking into account the breast tissue on the side. Going up a size helps to keep you covered and supported.
Straps: if you are wearing too big a band size, your straps will usually fall off or slip around.
Gore: middle of the bra. It should be laying flat in between your breasts.

One of Courtney’s passions is educating girls at a younger age about how your bra should fit. We talk about Court’s goal to get more information taught to younger girls in maturation programs so that they get the correct information at the start and avoid the problems we’ve all dealt with.
Most bra advertising shows bras being worn incorrectly. One of Courtney’s big passions is calling out brands that aren’t helping women or brands that show models wearing ill fitting bras.
