Episode 40: Ditch Your Comfort Zone
SUMMER IS HERE WHICH MEANS
The Ditch My Comfort Zone Challenge
HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!
It runs the entire length of the summer. June 1-August 31. And I am so excited about doing this challenge with you. So why this? Why am I so passionate about YOU leaving behind your comfort zone? Listen up, cause I’m about drop all the goods on why getting uncomfortable is the best thing for you!
As we grow older, we get set in our routines, we get comfortable. We have a favorite restaurant, a favorite item at that restaurant, we know our favorite shows, we shop at the same stores, we hang out with the same people, wear the same clothes….
Kids get a chance to push themselves out of comfort ALL THE TIME! It'‘s a HUGE part of growth as a human and as kids the opportunities are just present a lot more frequently than they are for us as adults. I feel like we have to be much more intentional about it. We don’t have a mom signing us up for swim lessons or committing us to try a new sport, or forcing piano lessons on us.
Life is always uncomfortable. You can be uncomfortable because you are leaving your comfort zone, or because you are staying in it. They both create discomfort. So which one would you rather choose? -Lori Harder
We tend to over complicate things. When I say ditch your comfort zone- your mind immediately jumps to something crazy, right? Like swimming with sharks, or jumping out of a plane….and yeah- both those things would DEFINITELY push me out of my comfort zone, you don’t have to find these crazy elaborate things. It can be simple. Like actually ordering SUSHI when you go out for SUSHI! True story!
Leaving your comfort zone gives you freedom from a life of regret. “I wish I would have” I realized after our scary car accident that I don’t have time to be scared, to sit in fear. There is way too much that I want to experience on this earth.
You get to feel PROUD of yourself! And that feeling is intoxicating. You start chasing it and looking for more and more opportunities to push yourself to do things you didn’t think you could do. You start seeing opportunities everywhere- you start noticing bravery in OTHERS more, and then YOU begin to be an inspiration to other people. The positive effects of ditching your comfort zone are amazing and create such a ripple effect.
