EPISODE 008: HOW TO HAVE AN AWESOME MARRIAGE
Today on the podcast I have a very special guest. Conor Larson, otherwise known as my husband and best friend in the whole world. This week we are celebrating 12 years of marriage. And that pretty much makes us experts at this point- TOTALLY KIDDING! We are far from experts- but we do have a really great relationship and over the past dozen years we’ve identified a few things that has helped figure out how to have an awesome marriage.
In this episode
Conor shares his top two tips for how to build a great marriage.
Don’t be a jerk. - Make it a priority to be kind to one another and put the other person’s feelings as a point of significance. You can disagree on things, but try to remember that if you hurt the other person- no one really comes out the “winner”.
Do the Work. People always say that marriage is hard. Conor talks about separating the idea the LIFE is difficult- not necessarily that MARRIAGE is difficult. Because we have the idea that life is hard- but we use are marriage as a way to tackle the hard things that life throws at us, together as a team.
Jessie shares her advice for a good marriage:
Go to bed together/ End the night with each other. It gives you a chance to put any issues to rest, talk about how the day went and you can go over the next day.
Be interested and supportive of each others interests. You come into marriage as two different people with different interests and hobbies. Support each other in those interests. Just because you are married doesn’t mean you need to lose yourself.
Be intentional about date nights and time with each other. It doesn’t always have to be an official date night, but making time for our marriage and being intentional about putting it on the top of the priority list makes sure that we don’t get lost in all the busyness and everyday stresses of life.
We aren’t claiming to be perfect or that we have all the answers to creating a great marriage- but hopefully you found something here to be helpful.
